RE: Where to go for RV fishing trip in AZ or New Mex in November

See the NM Fish and Game Stocking and conditions site This time of year Cochiti COE lake north of ABQ is good, although there could be a light freeze at night. Elephant Butte and Caballo both have a lot of brush free shore line. Quemado off of US60 near AZ border has/had canoe rentals last time I was there. Several smallish lakes in the mountains are less than an hours drive from the warmer valleys close by.

Go with LT tires.

RE: Acoma Pueblo Sky City Walk Through Only Photos Allowed

When I was 15 I had a rock fall on me and crack my pelvis while climbing Enchanted Mesa next to Sky City. Ah the good old days. :) I once drove the dirt roads from Sky City south to US 60. Mostly open range, rolling hills, mesas, and arroyos with some livestock tanks.

RE: LA Transit Alternatives

I-5 to 138 at the top of the grapevine, 138 to 15 then a short ride to the 215. 215 on a Sunday afternoon should be fine although the Las Vegas to LA traffic on the short piece of 15 between the 138 and 215 will be a crawl. The freeway is very wide there and seldom actually stops moving.

RE: 89A Flagstaff to Sedona...

Another vote for Freddy's. The one in Las Cruces is 7 min from home.

RE: Return to AngelFireNM...

Some things you tell people about and some things you don't. Best fishing spots, quiet bars, and northern NM.

RE: Load range E--ST Tire

If you are going to drive in 100 degree heat for any distance the ST tires are not a good choice, although they may last for one or two trips. For long distance driving in summer temperatures and full loads you need LT tires. Plus LT tires can be driven at highway speeds (70+) without damage or overheating-the main cause of tread failure/blowouts in ST tires. In high heat and under normal 5er load (8500lb in a 12000lb rated trailer) I have had ST E tires blow out in less than a day crossing AZ and CA desert at 100 plus temperatures. The tires were at the correct pressure and were less than 2 weeks old when I left Tucson. Two blow outs by Needles and another going through LA--although that might have been the potholes on I-10. Changing a tire on US95 at 110 degrees is no fun and doing it twice was down right irritating. Switched to LT tires and have not had a single blowout in 7 years.

RE: Grand Canyon to Denver, 16ft Penske truck + car carrier

Blanco is on 64 so just follow it to Chama. Then 17 to Antonito 285 to Alamosa 160 Walsenburg I-25 North, just as google suggests. Easy pass between Chama and Antonito as is La Vita on 160 east bound.

RE: When to replace the hitch pin?

If I exposed my pin or any part of my vehicle or attachment hardware to a salt environment I would look for rust each time I used it and replace if it looked weakened. I've got one pin that I have used 23 years with out any wear or tear. Mostly used to pull the boat and light weight trailers (less than 3000lbs) behind my Astro van. I guess if I lived where rust was an issue I might worry about it or the hitch bolts, welds and other attachment hardware. My truck pulls the 5er and not much else. I do have a spare hitch pin for it somewhere but when I was pulling doubles I used the pin from the van in the 5er hitch to pull the boat. It has been dipped into salt water a time or two but then washed off as soon as possible with fresh water along with the rest of any metal I had near the sea.

RE: Generator Camp Security

only sure thing is a pit bull changed real close. My Jackson would let you have the whole camper for a bone and belly rub. A real sweet heart and very good boy, but no watch dog.
